Let’s have a conversation about giving. (An honest conversation.) This topic goes straight to the heart and I must confess I consider myself lacking.
It’s something that I’ve heard repeated all my life and sharing is even something we are taught in school. For a lesson that is consequently engraved at such an early age, why is it also something we have to remind ourselves of daily? For me, there is not an area on the list below that I excel in and that’s disappointing and embarrassing to determine in self examination. (or for when you are writing thousands of people on the topic of giving)
· influences over others
· worldly possessions
Who said “It is more blessed to give than to receive”? That would be Jesus. Ouch.
This is not a new discovery of mine. I even have a somewhat threatening passage (Proverbs 11:24-25) pinned at my desk so that its always on my mind yet when someone interrupts me when I’m working and needs help from me, it always feels like a burden to me.
I apologize for not having some advice on how to live a life of generous giving but I hope this conversation inspires you to remember that giving, of any kind, is a blessing in itself.
“Do good, be rich in good deeds, be generous and willing to share… so you may take hold of life that is truly life.” 1 Timothy 6:18-19
