Calling over Comfort

With each changing season, we select a woman we feel lives out the message of our Strong Woman Collection. This spring, we are so thrilled to pair up with Jennie Allen, a woman who has inspired us in so many ways and through so many avenues to be better women in Christ.

Our Calling Over Comfort design is the latest addition to this collection. We believe that first and foremost the calling of our lives is to follow Jesus. The best way to live out this calling is to use the unique gifts and abilities we have been given for God’s glory. This isn’t always easy and sometimes means stepping outside of our comfort zones to do so.

Through our Calling Over Comfort products, we hope to inspire and remind you to choose your calling to follow Christ over the comfort of complacency.

And if you need a role model to guide your efforts, look no further than Jennie herself. We feel like she truly lives out the message of Calling Over Comfort through her ministry, IF Gathering. She talks often about how the calling to start this ministry often seemed overwhelming and too big. But step by step, God brought it to life as she chose to obey and keep pushing forward in faith.

We caught up with the busy author, speaker, wife and mom of four to hear what motivates her to pursue Christ, the best tacos in the Austin airport and the verse that inspires her the most.

S&G: What does it mean to choose your calling over comfort?

Jennie: It means' loving others more than you love yourself and wanting God's name to be built more than your own, It's a thousand small choices that no body will see and no body will celebrate.

S&G: Who motivates you to live out your calling over comfort?

Jennie: More than anyone my husband. he has such a kingdom view of our lives and he makes many sacrifices to live out this calling and pushes me further to live out this calling to obey God.

S&G: What’s your favorite bible verse?

Jennie: John 7:37-38: “On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

S&G: Favorite Food?

Jennie: Brisket Tacos from Salt Lick in the airport in Austin. A little bit of barbecue and a little bit of texas mex.

S&G: What’s your favorite place to visit?

Jennie: Lost Valley Ranch- no technology, my kids are happy, we are together. It's pretty magical.

S&G: What’s your favorite things to do in your free time?

Jennie: In Austin it's warm 3 seasons out the year and there is a lot of water everywhere. So we will take the kids down and go paddle boarding. Super fun for our family.

S&G: What kind of outcome do you always hope for with the IF Gathering?

Jennie: That people feel inspired to love God and serve him in the context of their everyday lives instead of doing something bigger and more and that the most important work is us in our places loving our people. This year a lot of the people in our IF community were just loving God and people in their everyday lives. They were validated for doing small things for the Kingdom.
